This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these Statutes and Judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in His ways, and to keep His Statutes, and His Commandments, and His Judgments, and to hearken unto His voice: And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be His peculiar people, as He hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all His Commandments; And to make thee high above all nations which He hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as He hath spoken. (Deut. 26:16-19)
God did not call Israel because they were the greatest or largest nation, but because of His plans and purposes, to redeem a people unto Himself and bring forth His Son that all the peoples of the world might be blessed in Him. God called Israel to Holiness because He is Holy and because their obedience by faith would shine against the darkness and sin of the nations around them. He gave them Commandments, Statutes, and Judgments, that they might live in liberty and not in the bondage to sin of the other nations. God promised blessing in obedience and honor unto His people who lived His Law by faith.
Though we know the Law cannot save anyone, its principles of holiness, justice, and fairness toward others and worship and righteousness toward God lead to blessings. Those of us who are saved by faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary are not free to continue in sin because of God’s grace and forgiveness but because of our repentance of sin we are at liberty to live in Christ the life He would have us to live. We are to live lives of holiness unto Christ, not by a series of laws for Christ is the fulfilment of the Law, but through Christ living in the Spirit. We love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, because He first loved us and love our neighbor as ourselves because He loves them as He loves us. We do unto others as we would have them do unto us, not because we have to or because God commands it, but because of the love of God shed abroad in our hearts. We walk in holiness and righteousness, not our own but Christ living in us a life that is truly life, abundant and free because we are His people and He is our Creator, Redeemer, and King.
God has sent those who are His and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our God has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of God so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of God might have life in His Name.
God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. God calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with God, forgiveness from God, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is God the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
In Christ,
