And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about. And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five. And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom. (1 Kings 4:29-34)
Though he was relatively young, God had blessed Solomon with not only wisdom but also peace throughout Israel and with all their neighbors. The wisest man who ever lived, famous for his wisdom, spoke of natural things to teach principles of wisdom, instruction, and correction, that all may know, not just of God but also of living well. He wrote many more proverbs than were published in the Word of God and songs of praise unto God. Many came from all over to hear Solomon’s wisdom and to know the peaceful king of Israel. God was glorified in the gifts he had given unto Solomon and the nation was at rest.
The student of the Scriptures and child of God would do well to seek out the wisdom of Solomon and be at peace, not only with God through faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, but also, as much as in us with all men. God gives wisdom and peace through reconciliation and forgiveness that we can live, not in our own power or strength, for we cannot be at peace in of ourselves, but a lasting peace born out of true relationship with the living God. That does not mean that strife and calamity will not come, but we can be content, resting in our God, through the storms of life. Following the principles of the Proverbs will get us part way there, but only the salvation of God through Jesus Christ, the One greater than Solomon, will bridge the gap between God and man and give us true peace, within and without. When the peaceful king was on the throne of Israel she was at rest, and when the King of Peace reigns in our hearts we can be at peace and live as He would have us to live in and through Him who is our peace. Then we can take our message of peace and rest to reach the lost, teach the nations, and preach His Word to all who will hear, that they may have peace with God. God does not bring peace to those who will not surrender, for they are at war with Him, but will redeem whosoever will receive His free gift of grace through faith and be born again into His life of ministry, missions, and discipleship.
While we are here, God has sent those of us who are His saints and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our God has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of God so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of God might have life in His Name.
God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. God calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with God, forgiveness from God, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is God the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
In Christ,
