For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the Day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. (1Co 3:11-15)
That poem by C.T. Studd sums up this passage nicely. We will be judged, not for our sins for they are forgiven (though that is not a license to continue in sIn), but at the Judgment seat of Christ, when we meet our Saviour. He will judge our works and intentions, as by fire, and only the eternal will survive for reward. The temporary will dissolve away at a loss. And what a loss, to think of all that we could have done, or should have done, for Christ, instead of for ourselves.
This passage should not be taken as a guilt trip to get you to do more for Him, but an encouragement, and a warning, to purposefully and prayerfully examine your motives and practices as you live this life we live in Christ. Seek Him, in prayer, and in the Word, that you may know His will and do His Work, and all the rest will sort itself out as He directs and causes you to grow in Him until the Day when we meet Him.
Until that Day comes, we are to be about our Father's business. We are His ambassadors, and so are to represent His Kingdom here as we sojourn in, but not of this lost and dying world, ministering to the hurting and in need with the love of GOD. We are His disciples and are to love one another and disciple one another in His Word. We are ministers of reconciliation, pointing people to GOD through the Gospel. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to all who will hear, that by repentance and faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross they may receive Him and have eternal life in His Name.
For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to trust Him and what He has already done for you to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD with forgiveness and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
