And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at His right hand to resist him. And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the Angel. And he answered and spake unto those that stood before Him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the Angel of the LORD stood by. (Zechariah 3:1-5)
Here Zechariah sees a vision of a courtroom scene: with Joshua the High Priest representing Israel and Our Lord in His appearance as the Angel of the LORD defending him. We see Satan, the accuser of the brethren coming in to resist Joshua and our Lord and he is quickly challenged and put in his place. Our Lord Jesus, our advocate states the case of Joshua and Israel as delivered, Holy because of Him, chosen and cleansed; not because of any special righteousness or privilege on their part, but because of Jesus the Messiah who has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light.
In Christ we are clean, in Christ we are holy, in Christ we are forgiven and are priests with GOD and with man. All saints, the members of His Church are a Holy people, a chosen generation and because of His Grace we can boldly approach the throne in Faith. Not because of us, but because of Him and in Him we have our being, our life, and our purpose.
Without His righteousness, all our righteousness is as filthy rags. All our self effort is for nought, and we are men most miserable. But thanks be to GOD for all His wondrous mercy and grace. At the Cross we receive forgiveness of sIn, resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. An abundant life that starts with the new birth the moment we surrender to GOD on His terms and are born again, and continues as He lives His life in us and through us to make us more like Him. That is good news, the greatest news mankind has ever heard. Don't reject GOD's free gift to you. Stop fighting Him and repent that you will be saved.
