And the king Ahasuerus laid a tribute upon the land, and upon the isles of the sea. And all the acts of his power and of his might, and the declaration of the greatness of Mordecai, whereunto the king advanced him, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? For Mordecai the Jew was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed. (Est 10:1-3)
Mordecai and Esther were very important people to the Jews, not only because of the feast which commemorates their deliverance during their days in Persia, but also because of their faith and steadfastness in following the Laws and Commandments of God. Their obedience to God and to their king in those things not contrary to God meant they were model citizens, despite Haman’s view of them. Their preservation also meant the nation would continue, return to the land of Israel, and bring forth the Saviour, just as God had promised His people long ago.
We can see the promotion of Mordecai, not as a promise that we will be promoted, but a principle that those who obey God and the government in those things which are right and holy will be exalted in due time. God has told us that being dead to self and dying daily, humbling ourselves before Him in faith and repentance, and obedient to His Word will lead to an increase in responsibility and service. Continued ministry to others and good works, not to gain or keep salvation, for that is by grace, but because of what He has done for us and because of our love for Him who first loved us will be rewarded and recognized in His time.
Like Mordecai we are to wait on God, doing that which He has called us to do, and serving Him. Looking for what God is doing and getting in on His work in obedience and faith will lead us to a greater place of service and if we remain humble and grateful to our God a greater love for others and for Him who died for us and lives now at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us until He calls us Home.
Until that day comes, God calls His people to holiness and obedience to Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our GOD has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of GOD so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of GOD might have life in His Name.
GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD, forgiveness from GOD, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
In Christ,
