And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches. But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire consumed them. And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground. And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation. (Ezekiel 19:11-14)
Ezekiel, like Jeremiah before him now takes up a lamentation, against the princes and rulers of Judah who had abandoned their GOD given role and responsibility to lead the people of GOD with justice, and Biblical morality. They had failed miserably to be true and faithful leaders, but instead had become tyrants and overlords that dried up the people for their own selfish gain. GOD pronounced judgment on them and recorded their destruction and going into captivity at the hands of the Babylonians or dying because they sought refuge with Egypt despite GOD's clear warning against that course of action.
GOD is not mocked and must deal with sIn. Those that rebel and disobey receive justice. Those that repent and surrender to GOD on His terms receive mercy. Those that deny GOD and do their own will face judgment and eternal punishment. Those that believe in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross of Calvary, and die to self while trusting Him are forgiven and receive eternal Life. GOD gives us the choice, but warns us of the consequences of our choice.
His Church must be faithful and obey His commandments. The pastors and elders must lead, not as overlords, but as servants. The men and fathers must teach and live the Word, so that all may hear and believe. All must preach, teach, and share the Good News of the Gospel so that those that don't know Christ can be saved.
GOD is not willing that you should perish, but wants you to come to a knowledge of the truth. The Truth that Jesus is GOD, that He willingly and humbly went to the Cross for your sIn, and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Jesus loves you, and His desire is that you be born again and receive by Faith in Him a brand new life that is abundant and everlasting. Choose Him today.
GOD's people are to be about our Father's business. Share Him with those you meet.
