Preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins

Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? (Luke 3:7-10)
John came out of the desert unto Jordan and began to baptize those who repented of their sins. When the Pharisees and Sadducees saw it, they too came, not in repentance but to join the show of baptism. John rebuked their self-righteousness, saying to bring forth righteous fruits which truly demonstrate their turning from sin and reliance upon God. God would prune the nation of Israel and those who were not producing would be cut down. The people who came under conviction asked what they should do.

The self-righteous leaders of Israel came to John’s baptism to join in, not to be saved or to repent, but to put on a show of religion. John, being led by the Spirit of God, knew their heart and pointed out their wickedness and reliance upon themselves and not God. He warned them of God’s pruning and correction and called for true repentance and faith. All those who became convicted by the Holy Spirit asked John what to do and were given specifics which would follow out of a repentant heart.

We don’t follow the ceremony of baptism to be saved, for water is not what saves us, baptism is only a sign of what we already have. Only the blood of Jesus Christ and our receiving Him by faith in Him and the finished and perfect work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary can save. The Holy Spirit draws people unto God, points them to Jesus Christ as the only Salvation from the wrath to come, and guides them into the Truth of the Gospel that they may be saved. Christians are to go and tell, reaching the lost with the Good News of Christ, teaching all nations all that Christ has commanded, and preaching His Word unto all who will hear until all who will repent and be saved have done so and God is done with us. God invites whosoever will to come to Him on His terms and sends His people as His messengers that others might hear and believe.

God has sent those of us who are His saints and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our God has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of God so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of God might have life in His Name.

God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. God calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with God, forgiveness from God, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is God the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.

In favour with God and man

And it came to pass, that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. And when they saw Him, they were amazed: and His mother said unto Him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And He said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about My Father's business? (Luke 2:46-49)
Temporarily separated from Jesus, His earthly family found Him in the temple courts discussing the Law of God with the lawyers and doctors of Law. Though all were astonished at His questions and answers, Jesus was not overwhelming but humble, even as His mother wondered at all that was happening. Hid earthly father and mother did not yet fully understand His mission and purpose and His Father’s business.

Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, the Law-giver who spoke with Moses and Abraham, Joshua and David, has now become just as human as the rest of us, yet without sin and fully God. He discussed the points of the Law He gave with the elders and leaders of Israel when the family visited Jerusalem. Though Mary and Joseph were at a loss to find him for a time, He was never lost but doing the will of His Father. He came to serve, to teach those who will hear, and give Himself a ransom for many. As Lord of all, He could have insisted and stayed with the lawyers, but He humbly submitted to the authority placed over Him and was obedient, growing in favour with God and man.

As Christians, we are to be about our Father’s business of reaching the lost with the Gospel, teaching the nations all that Christ commanded, and preaching the Word of God unto all who will hear. We are to be found obedient and faithful, always ready to give a defense of that which God has revealed unto us through His Word and sharing the Good News that Jesus Christ, the Law-giver has become the sacrifice for sin and satisfied the Law and the wrath of His Father. Our Lord came to give Himself for us that we might receive the righteousness of Him by faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary. We are to give ourselves in service to Him that others might come to Him in repentance of their sins and faith unto eternal life.

God has sent those of us who are His saints and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. Give thanks likewise unto the Lord and speak of Him

And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for Him after the custom of the Law, Then took he Him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy Word: For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, Which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A Light to lighten the Gentiles, and the Glory of Thy people Israel. (Luke 2:25-32)
God graciously allowed Simeon not only to live until Christ was born but also to see Jesus presented as a babe at the temple according to the Law. When God directed him to the temple and he held Jesus, He praised God and blessed the child who was the Son of God in human form. The Salvation of Israel as a nation, the Light unto all the Gentiles, and the Glory of Israel and of God who would save all people had been born. God’s Salvation would be given to all people.

Though the story of Joseph, Mary, and the shepherds is much more familiar, there are other people and events God revealed concerning the birth of Christ. Two faithful servants blessed the child when He was presented to the temple and the purification sacrifices were offered according to the Law. Before Joseph took his family back to Nazareth (they would return in every year for the Passover) he fulfilled all the requirements of God’s Law. Simeon met his Lord at the temple and blessed the child, praising God for His Salvation and for the Glory of Israel. Anna likewise praised God and spoke of Christ to all who would hear.

Christians today should also be as obedient to follow all that Jesus has commanded, not to keep what God has graciously provided but because of our love for our Lord. We should also be as joyous in praising Him for His wondrous works unto the children of men and testifying of all that God has done for us. We are to give thanks for His creation, for our redemption by faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, and for our service to our King. We are to praise Him for His provision of all our needs, for His protection over His servants, and for His presence among His people as He teaches, guides, and corrects His children. The Light of the world has shone into our darkness and His love is shed abroad in our hearts and we are to go where He sends that we might reach the lost unto Salvation, teach the nations all that He has revealed, and preach His Word that all might be saved.

Just as Simeon and Anna, as obedient servants, praised and proclaimed the Messiah, God has sent those of us who are His saints and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. My spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour

And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For He hath regarded the low estate of His handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For He that is mighty hath done to me great things; and Holy is His Name. And His mercy is on them that fear Him from generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with His arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He hath sent empty away. He hath holpen His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy; As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.  (Luke 1:46-55)
Mary praised God and her Lord for all His wondrous works. A chosen vessel to accomplish the work of the Lord, she praised Him for His Salvation, for His deliverance, for His promises, for His mighty works, and His Holy Name which is above every Name. The servant of God praised the Lord for His mercy and grace, for His judgment and justice, for exalting the humble and obedient. She praised God for His protection, provision, and presence as He had now kept His promised to Abraham and the children of Israel.

Mary knew that she was just a humble servant of the Most High. Her worship was all about Him and all that God had promised and was doing, for her and for all people. His promised salvation had come in the person of the child she was carrying. His grace was given through His Spirit to all who would receive it and His mighty works were coming to pass. His mercy is given to all who fear Him and are obedient unto His Word. The proud are cast down and the mighty in their own strength fail. God exalts His humble servants, not to godhead or divinity, for only God is God, but obedient service is rewarded in God’s time and God keeps His promises. Mary knew the Lord and rejoiced in the only One who could save her from her sins.

God brought forth His Son for the Salvation of whosoever will repent and receive Him by faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary. Mary was a chosen vessel for His work and we are chosen for the work He has for us to do. All are in need of a Saviour to save us from our sins and only God can save. No one is without sin, and sin separates us from God and only by faith through His grace can Salvation come to those who put their trust in Jesus Christ. From Moses to John, from Abel to Zechariah, from John the Baptist to John the son of Zebedee, and all Christians since, all have had to be saved by faith through grace and the power of the Holy Spirit which gives us new life when we are born again. God is our Saviour, our Creator, Redeemer, and King and He calls all to repent of their sins and be reconciled unto Him just as He reconciled Mary and all those before and since who have received Him.

Just as Mary was a willing and obedient servant, God has sent those of us who are His saints and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. The Dayspring from on High hath visited us

But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. (Luke 1:13-17)
The angel’s message to Zacharias was one of good news. The promised forerunner of the Messiah would soon be born to a man who had no children. His prayers for a child and for the coming of the Messiah were answered and his son John, who would be the messenger of the Lord, was on the way. He would walk in the ways of the Lord and prepare the people for the arrival of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, who would also soon be born in His earthy incarnation. God the Son would soon visit His people with grace and salvation.

As we continue our journey through the Scriptures, we will now take a look at one of the Gospels. Luke’s message of the humanity of Jesus Christ, the Messiah of God, was good news to all who needed a very human Saviour. Luke begins his Good News with the account of the arrival of John and the announcement of the coming incarnation of Jesus, the Son of God who is God the Son and who would soon put on flesh and dwell amongst His people with the Good News of Salvation for all people.

The Good News of Salvation in Jesus Christ to whosoever will admit their need of a Saviour to forgive their sin, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, and confess that Jesus is Lord and that He has given them a new life in Christ, born again from above and reconciled with the Father through the Son and by the Holy Spirit. Just as Luke proclaimed the Gospel of Salvation to all humanity and the humanity of Jesus Christ in his Gospel, so should all Christians proclaim Christ to the world that all might be saved through the message of the Cross. The preaching of the Cross may be foolishness to those who perish, but we are commanded to go and tell; teaching the nations, preaching the Word of God, and reaching the lost until God is through with us.

While we are here, God has sent those who are His and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin.

He has provided the only way of reconciliation with God, forgiveness from God, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is God the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. The similitude of the LORD shall he behold

And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar. And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. (Deut. 34:1-4)
As Moses prepares to leave this earth and depart this life, God takes him up atop Mt. Nebo and shows him all the land which God had promised unto Abraham and his descendants, the children of Israel. From North to South, Moses looked over all the land from Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea which the LORD showed him. All this land which Joshua would soon lead the Israelites into to conquer and possess at the hand of the Lord, because Moses could not enter in to the land himself. This was the Promised Land from Gilead to Zoar, from Jordan to the great sea, the land of Israel.

Moses had disobeyed God and could not enter into the Promised Land, but God allowed him to see all the land from the top of a mountain outside Jericho. He could look to Gilead and Dan in the north and all the way to Zoar in the south by the dead sea. From north to south and east to west, Moses looked over the land which God had promised to Abraham and Joshua would soon lead the Israelites in the possession of it. Moses, a prophet like no other until Jesus Christ, who saw God face-to-face, was still a sinner in need of the Saviour. God was merciful and allowed him to see that which he could not cross over the Jordan and enter into the land.

Moses would step foot in the land of Israel when he met with Jesus on the mount of Transfiguration with Elijah. The witnesses and prophets unto Jesus Christ, the Messiah of God, testified and prophesied of who Jesus is and what He has done and will do. The Saviour of the world, who talked with Moses on the mount, who gave the Law to Israel, and who spoke the worlds into being, put on flesh that whosoever will receive Him by faith could have eternal life. All those who repent of their sins and put their faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary can receive the forgiveness of sin and be born again into a new relationship with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The God of Moses wants everyone to know Him and to walk with Him by faith even closer than Moses did until the day that all who are His see Him face-to-face. He will not give us everything we want, for He is not a magic genie or cosmic ATM, but He will provide what we need and what is good, for He is Lord; our Creator, Redeemer, and King.

While we are here, God has sent those who are His and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. All His saints are in Thy hand

The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and He shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them. Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also His heavens shall drop down dew. Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places. (Deut. 33:27-29)
Moses continued his final address with blessings and prophecies upon the tribes of Israel and upon the nation. Moses worshiped God even as He blessed the tribes for God is God and Lord. God was the Rock of Israel and would carry them through all their battles. He is the victory for all who trust in Him. He is the provision and protector of all who trust in Him. Those that opposed God would fall before Israel and God is glorified in all things.

As the nation prepared for Moses departure and their crossing over into Canaan to possess the Promised Land, Moses blessed them and prophesied over the tribes of Israel and the children of Jacob. He reminded each tribe that God alone is their God and He alone would protect and provide for His people. The LORD God of Israel would bring them victory and strengthen the people to the work He had set before them. He would give them safety and security even in the midst of their enemies because He is God and had promised it. He cannot fail and none of His promises, statutes, or decrees will be broken.

Our God will stand with us for we are secure in His arms. Those of us who are born again by faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary have trusted Him with our salvation, not in our own strength, but by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. All humanity is condemned already because of sin but God loves us so much that He put to death the flesh that we might be saved and reconciled unto God. He has already won the battle over sin and death, and He has redeemed those who receive Him by faith and have repented of their sins unto eternal life. He is our Rock and He alone can save those who come to Him on His terms of surrender and faith. All who are against God will face Him as judge but offers forgiveness and salvation to whosoever will repent and put their faith in Him and Him alone.

While we are here, God has sent those who are His and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. The Song of Moses and the Lamb

3/21/2018

Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the Name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He. (Deut. 32:1-4)
Moses song of praise as he handed over the reins of leadership to Joshua. His time on earth done, Moses praised God, worshipping, and extoling the Name of the LORD. God is great, His Name is above every name, and His Word is magnified above His Name. God is perfect, proved by His people, all His ways are right and He is Truth. He is just, even as He is love, and He is good. He alone is worthy of our praise because He alone is God.

As Moses prepared to leave this earth, having handed the over the leadership of Israel unto Joshua, he worshiped God and praised the LORD who had created him, delivered him from Egypt, redeemed him from sin, and would now usher him into His presence. He extolled the Name of the Lord and all His ways. Even His judgments are just and all His ways are true and right. His love is perfect, casting out all fear. He is the Rock of Salvation, the strong tower of protection and provision, our great God is Creator, Redeemer, and King.

We praise the Father who sent His Son to pay the penalty for sin and reconcile us to Himself. We praise the Son of God who is God the Son who put on flesh and went to the cross willingly for our sins. We praise the Spirit who indwells those who are His and empowers us to do His will. We praise our God who loved us and gave Himself for us. Our Rock on whom the Church is built, our foundation who revealed Himself in His Word, our Saviour who purchased us with His own blood. We praise our God who alone is God and who has given all judgment unto His Son. The Father who is over all. We praise our God who guides us into all Truth, who convicts of sin and of righteousness, who moves us to do the work of God. The Spirit of God who calls all who are not born again unto repentance and eternal life by faith in Jesus Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary. The Word made flesh who put to death the flesh that we might have life and have it more abundantly. The Father who received the sacrifice of the Son and was satisfied and offers forgiveness to whosoever will receive Him by faith through grace.

While we are here, God has sent those who are His and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides.

Be strong and of a good courage for I will be with thee

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it. And the LORD, He it is that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. (Deut. 31:6-8)
As Israel faced the upcoming task of conquering the Promised Land, God chose Joshua to lead the nation and succeed Moses. Moses encouraged his successor and reminded him that the LORD was his strength and he did not need to fear that which he faced because God was with him and would go before him into battle. God would not fail and would not forsake Joshua as He had not forsaken Moses.

Joshua would now take the armies of Israel into the Promised Land by the hand of the LORD and God would lead them to victory. Joshua did not need to fear his enemies as long as he feared God because God was his strength and he could take courage that God was on his side and had already given them the land. God would not fail in any of His promises because of His covenant with Abraham. He would not forsake them nor fail in His provision for Israel while Joshua and the nation of Israel were in obedience to God. The LORD, He is God, and He had already given them the land and the victory and would go before Joshua and the Israelites, so they could go in boldly and confidently unto the battle which was before them.

Thanks be to God who has given to Christians the victory through Jesus Christ over sin and the grave. For those who are born again in Christ through repentance of sin and our faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, we are forgiven by God’s grace, not to continue in sin, but to conquer and have victory through His power and Spirit within. We are delivered from the penalty of sin, for Christ has taken our punishment upon Himself and satisfied the wrath of God. Through our repentance of sin, the Spirit of God conquers and controls us as we submit to Him, and the power of sin over us is diminished as we tear down the strongholds of the mind and cast down every vain imagination and that which opposes God. For those who are saved, we have the promise that God is with us and will never forsake us, both individually and as a people of God, His Church, because of the blood He purchased us with and because of our faith in Him and obedience to His Word. He has secured us unto Himself and conquered death and offers Salvation to whosoever will receive Him by grace through faith unto eternal life and the final victory over the presence of sin.

God has sent those who are His and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. The Word is very nigh unto thee

See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His Commandments and His Statutes and His Judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (Deut. 30:15-19)
God gave the Israelites a choice, to choose Him and live or reject His Word and perish. They could walk in His Ways and keep His Word or go after the false gods of the other nations and be cut off from the blessings of God. They could possess the land which God promised in obedience and faithfulness, or they could reject all that God promised and perish from the earth. God put forth His Word and called each of the children of Israel to love Him and accept His Word or reject Him and face His wrath and judgment.

Just as Adam and Eve had the choice of believing God and obeying His Word, so Israel had the choice to keep His Laws and possess the land in obedience by faith. God put forth His Word and called each of them to faithful obedience, not because it would save them, but to demonstrate their faith and their love for their God. As they prepared themselves to enter into the promised land and conquer that which God had already given them and promised to them, they were given the choice to believe and obey, or reject God and His Word. Choosing God meant life and blessing, rejecting God meant death and separation from God and His blessings.

Jesus Christ, the creator of the universe, the Son of God who is God the Son, is life, and He came that we might have life. We have a choice to choose Him or reject Him. The choice to receive Jesus Christ by faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary is a choice which leads to life eternal. He offers life and liberty to all who will repent of their sins and receive Him. The same choice which Adam, Noah, Abraham, and the Israelites had, was to choose God’s Word of Truth and live or choose man’s opinions, theories, and ideas and reject the God of the Universe who loved us and gave Himself for us when He put to death the flesh for our sins and paid our sin penalty for us. Each person must make that choice for themselves and as long as they don’t accept Him, they are rejecting God and choosing to remain in their sins and separated from God who offers Salvation to all who will believe.

God has sent those who are His and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory.
