Be strong and of a good courage

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the Law, which Moses My servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy GOD is with thee whithersoever thou goest. (Jos 1:7-9)
Having finished our journey through Paul's letters, we now shift once again to the history of the OT. Here in Joshua we will work our way through the travels and travails of the Jewish people under the direction of Joshua who succeeded Moses as the Leader and under-shepherd of GOD's people. We will review their campaigns, their conquests, and their failures, and seek to understand the message GOD has for us from His Word as we study the historical context and the current application.

Joshua was not to fear the assignment or be weak in leadership but was to focus on GOD and His Word. GOD had already given Joshua, through Moses, every thing he needed to prosper under the mighty hand of GOD. The Lord would be with them and guide them to victory and success if they would hear and obey. If they departed from His Word and went their own way, they would be chastised, suffer calamity, or defeated.

We are to understand, that though the Christians life is not easy, living in Christ means we surrender ourselves, we reckon ourselves dead, that He might live in us, and shew Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him. We are to reflect Christ who is our Lord, and not walk our own way. We are to know and follow His Word, rightly divided, and live in Him as His Spirit leads us into all Truth. We are not to fear what is ahead, or what man may do, for our GOD is with us, He will never leave us nor forsake us, He is our help, and we have the Spirit of love, and of power, and of a sound mind, and are to rest in Him in faith and obedience.

Having entered into His spiritual rest because of our faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary and received Him by faith, we now do His work in this lost and dying world, not to earn or keep what He has freely given to those who repent and trust Him, but because of His mercy and grace. We serve, as His ambassadors, with the Word of reconciliation, to those around us who are hurting and in need. We disciple one another in the Word of Truth that we may grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We share the Gospel of Jesus Christ every where GOD sends us, and as we go, tell all who will hear of His love, mercy, and grace, that those who receive the Good News and repent of their sins might have life in His Name.

For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to trust Him and what He has already done for you to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD, forgiveness from GOD, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit

Grace to you, and peace, from GOD our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my GOD, making mention of thee always in my prayers, Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. (Phm 1:3-6)
Grace, the giving of that which we don't deserve, has been given to us which believe in Jesus Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, not because of us, but because of His love for us. Peace, that passeth understanding, not the removal of storms and strife around us, but a quiet calm peace within and through whatever assails us, because the Prince of Peace is present within us, through faith in His Word, and His Spirit that dwells in all who have repented and believed. His mercy, the withholding of that which we do deserve, is new every morning, and we are not consumed, because He loves us.

We love Him because He first loved us. We love the brethren, because we are members one of another. We love those who are lost, not willing that any should perish, but that all would repent and believe unto Salvation. We look for the good things of GOD, and every perfect gift which the Father of lights bestows on His children, not for the things of this world, the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life, which will pass away when He judges this sinful and broken world, and takes us Home to be with Him.

Until that day, we are to communicate our love and faith, not just in words, but in action. We are called to minister to those around us who are hurting and in need, representing His Kingdom and doing that which He directs to accomplish His will and work in this world. We are commanded to love one another, as members of His body, to equip, exhort, and encourage every member to those good works He has prepared us to do as we disciple one another in His Word. We are commissioned, as His ambassadors and ministers of reconciliation, to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to this lost and dying world, and as we go, sharing the Good News of reconciliation and repentance with those we meet that they might believe and have life in His Name.

We give thanks to Thy Holy Name O GOD of our Salvation

Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the Kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as Head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our GOD, we thank thee, and praise Thy glorious Name. But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of Thee, and of Thine own have we given Thee. (1Ch 29:11-14)

Be ready to every good work for Christ

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of GOD our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in GOD might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. (Tit 3:3-8)
We who are in Christ, new creatures by His grace and mercy, are not what we were. We are not yet what He would have us to be, but we are growing in Him, we are washed clean by His mercy and our repentance of our sin. We have not arrived, but we are complete in Him, made perfect in Christ, by our faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary for Salvation. We are filled with His Spirit, having received His free gift of eternal life, and now empowered and equipped with His Word unto the works He would have us do, and to do His will in this world.

We are no longer of this world, and we should no longer be conformed to its ways, but transformed by His Word and His Spirit, in our hearts and minds, that we would be fully persuaded ambassadors of His Kingdom. We are on mission for our Lord, and He has work for us to do, not to earn or keep what He has already paid for, but because of our love for Him and our relationship with Him and the Father.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is our only hope. Those who are not in Christ act according to their nature, just as we did when we were without hope in this world. Only through the changed nature that comes from being born again in Christ and discipled in His Word can people become new, and families become holy, and communities become righteous. This world cannot do it, governments and their laws cannot change the hearts of men, only GOD and His power can make a difference that begins the moment a person receives Him by faith and lasts for all eternity. This world will pass away, but our relationship is secure in Christ and we are here to make a difference.

He has left us here, as ministers of reconciliation, and His witnesses, to do His will and accomplish His work in this world, until all who will come have believed. He has called us to missions and ministry, to help and comfort those who are hurting and in need, as He provides and blesses, that others might see Jesus in us, the hope of Glory. He has commanded us to love on another, as He loved us and as His disciples that all may know we are His, and that we might grow in Him as we disciple one another in His Word. He has commissioned us to His battle, not with weapons of this world, but with the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of GOD, studied and proven, to take the Good News of reconciliation and forgiveness to this world, that those who repent and believe in Him might have life in His Name.

The Doctrine of GOD our Saviour

11/23/2015

For the grace of GOD that bringeth Salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great GOD and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee. (Tit 2:11-15)
GOD's gift of abundant and everlasting life that began the moment we repented of our sins and placed our trust in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary is a precious and wonderful work of grace in us. We who are in Christ now live by faith and work out our Salvation in holiness and obedience to do the work which He has for us to do. His strength empowers us, His comfort encourages us, His mercy inspires us, and His Word gives us hope.

He has made us free, free from sin to live in righteousness, free from guilt to live in liberty, free from the works of the Law to rest in Him. We live to serve Him who is our Lord and Saviour, glorifying Him in this world, who has paid our sin debt, and washed clean and made us meet for every good work in the service of the King. He has given us His righteousness, for we have none of our own. He has given us Liberty to live and love as He would have us to. He has given us peace to endure no matter what comes against us while we are here.

Until He takes us from this world or comes again to receive His own unto Himself and He takes us Home to be with Him, we are here to serve Him. We are His ambassadors, representing the Kingdom of GOD, and serving in the service of our Lord and King. We minister to those around us who are hurting and in need, as He guides and blesses us, in missions and ministry. We love one another as members one of another, as He commanded us as His disciples, and grow one another in His Word in discipleship. We witness with the Gospel every where He sends us, and as we go, we share the Good News to every one that they might hear and receive Jesus Christ by faith and have eternal life in His Name.

Be thou an example of the believers

But speak thou the things which become sound Doctrine: That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of GOD be not blasphemed. Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. (Tit 2:1-6)
Each of us who are in Christ, as members of His body, and members one of another in the Church of GOD are to be examples to each other. We are to esteem others better than ourselves, and bear one anothers burdens and so fulfil the Law of Christ. We are to exemplify Christ to those walk with us, and to those who are coming behind us in the disciplines of  the Lord and in the life we live in Him and for Him.

Each generation is to share what they have learned, and pass it on to those that follow, that GOD may be glorified in the Christ-like behaviour and Godly character of His people. All who are saved by GOD's grace and our faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary are to live a life in and through Christ that reflects Him. We are to be holy, for He is Holy. We are to grow in Him, by the example of those who have gone before, and the Word of GOD, until He is done with us and comes to take us Home to be with Him.

Until then He calls us to service, in teaching Doctrine, instructing in the Word that all may know Him, and ministering to those around us who are hurting and in need. He commands us to love one another, teaching and admonishing as we all grow up in Him. He has commissioned all His people to the ministry of reconciliation and as ambassadors of His Kingdom. We are to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to this lost and dying world that they may believe the Good News and repent of their sin and have life in His Name.

For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. That ye may be sound in the faith

In hope of eternal life, which GOD, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; But hath in due times manifested His Word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the Commandment of GOD our Saviour;
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know GOD; but in works they deny Him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. (Tit 1:2-3, 10-11, 15-16)
We are to know the Truth through His Word and take it to this lost and dying world, not hiding in our buildings and campuses waiting for them to come to us, not shying away from the Truth because some are offended, but proclaiming and testifying of whom we have believed and His great Salvation. Because we are persuaded that He is able to take that which we have committed unto Him against that Day, we ought to be empowered and emboldened to preach the Truth. We ought not to back down in the face of adversity, or vacillate and capitulate in order to keep or get the approval of the world or its money. We are to stand firm and strong in the Truth, discerning the errors and wiles of the devil, and trusting our GOD to care for His own, as He has promised.

Those without speaking lies, and those who don't know Him but stand in positions of authority without the power He gives, are to be loved, but lovingly resisted and exposed when they don't speak the Truth. Those who corrupt the Word and sound Doctrine are to be lovingly removed from their platforms and gently but firmly given the chance to repent or leave the Church of GOD. Error is to be confronted, sin is to be exposed, and all in the love of GOD, that those who are in error and those that are in sin may repent and be restored to a proper relationship to GOD and His people.

We are given the ministry of reconciliation. We are told to lovingly restore those that fall. We are commanded to love and correct in a spirit of humility. We are His ambassadors and as members of His Church we are on mission for Him to minister to those who are hurting and in need, need of the Gospel, need of His provision, need of restoration and revival, that they may know Him and see Him in us, the hope of Glory. We as His disciples and as members one of another we are on mission to one another, to love and disciple each member in His Word that we may all grow into the full measure of Him with whom we have to do. We are His witnesses and as His people we are on mission to seek and to save those that are lost with the Good News of Jesus Christ, that those who repent of their sins and believe in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary might have life in His Name.

For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all

I charge thee therefore before GOD, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at His appearing and His Kingdom; preach the Word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and Doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the Truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing. (2Ti 4:1-8)
As Paul finishes his last letter to Timothy, and possibly his last letter on this earth, he reminds Timothy, and us, what we are to do most of all and what we are to be about. We are here, left in but not of this world, that we might shine as beacons for our Lord, proclaiming, "Thus saith the Lord" every where He sends us. We are to endure all that comes against us, for it will not do so except at the Lord's direction or allowance. We are to be on mission for Him, ministering, disciplining, and evangelizing, as we go with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in the Power of the Holy Spirit, and leaving the results to GOD.

Then we can say, as Paul did, that we have fought a good fight, not of the weapons of this world, but with the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of GOD. When He is done with us, we can say we have finished all that GOD has given us to do and our race is done, ready to hear those blessed words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord". When He calls us Home, we can say we have endured to the end, and our faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary is more sure than when we believed, and we are ready to depart from this world and enter into His presence.

The hope we have in Him, and His precious promises, ought to spur us to be faithful in ministry, missions, and discipleship, all the while reaching people with the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and a new life in Christ by grace through faith. Because He has blessed and provided for our needs, we minister to those around us who are hurting and in need. Because He has loved us, we love one another and disciple one another through His Word to know more of Jesus Christ. Because of His love of every one and His mercy offered to those who will receive Him, we share from His Word the Good News of the Gospel to all who will hear, that they might believe in Him and repent and have life in His Name.

The time will come when they will not endure sound Doctrine

11/17/2015

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto Salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of GOD, and is profitable for Doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of GOD may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (2Ti 3:12-17)
Persecution by those of sinful and broken world will come against us, and even more so as evil is allowed to grow as we approach the end of this age. But we are assured by the Truth of GOD's Word, which cannot be broken, that if we are truly secure in Jesus Christ by faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, then no matter what GOD allows or directs our way, we will be brought through it and remain in His care. He will not leave us or forsake us, He will never stop caring for us, and we whether we go to Him, or He comes for us, we will be with Him when He returns in Judgment and to establish His Kingdom in Israel.

GOD has given us His Word on it, and His Word is true. His precepts are right, His Commandments are pure, His testimony is sure, and His Law is perfect. Though written by men, from Adam to John, these men led by the Spirit of GOD, wrote of their experience and encounter with GOD and every Word is pure, tested in the fires of this sinful and broken world, and settled in Heaven, that we may know Him through its pages. We trust its teachings, for they teach us of Jesus Christ, without error. We learn from its reproofs, and renew our thinking about our GOD. We adjust our behaviour by its examples, as He corrects us. We live by its instructions, rightly dividing the Word of Truth and turn to its pages for comfort and peace, just as we did for Salvation.

Through it we are equipped unto every good work, even if many will not hear it. We reach out in ministry to those who are hurting and in need because it commands us to love our neighbour as ourselves, and because this world doesn't know what love is unless we live it. We fellowship, forgive, and disciple one another because it commands us to love the members of His Church as He loved us, that all may know we are His people. We proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ from its pages, because of His love for us revealed to all who will hear in His Word, and as we go, living the Gospel we preach, we tell others of the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and trust in Him for His grace and mercy that leads to eternal life in His Name.

Continue in the things which thou hast learned and been assured of

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of GOD; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the Truth. (2Ti 3:1-7)
These days do seem perilous and there is much in this broken and sinful world that fits with what Paul said here. There are those all around us who exhibit one or more of these traits of unrighteousness and ungodliness which GOD tells us about. Many of them are religious, but not of GOD, some even in the church; many are subtle and disarming in their outward appearance, but deceptive and false words and doctrine. Though some are overt in their deeds and character, others are more wary and put on a shepherds cloak even while they are ravenous wolves within.

We are to know them by their deeds, and discern their character and words which are contrary to the Scriptures, by knowing the Scriptures and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We are to study His Word, and know the thoughts and words of them which come and speak, whether what they say is Truth, and reject all falsehood. We are to see, yes even judge, with righteous judgment, the character and behavior, especially of those in leadership who serve GOD's Church, and reject those who are not holy, walking right with GOD, and speaking His Truth in the love of the Spirit of GOD, who say one thing while doing another. Especially those who deny or subvert His great Salvation by faith through grace, and our need of repentance toward GOD and saving faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary.

We are to be filled with the Spirit, walking in the power of His love, mercy, and grace, that others might see Jesus in us, the hope of Glory. As His ambassadors, we minister to those around us who are hurting and in need. As ministers of reconciliation we are to be on mission for Him. As members of His body, and of one another, we are to love others as He first loved us, and disciple other believers in His Word that we may all grow up into Christ and be conformed into His image. As His witnesses we are to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to this lost and dying world, and as we go, proclaiming to all we meet the Good News of forgiveness of sin through repentance and a new life in Him by faith in Christ alone, that those who believe might have life in His Name.
