Could you not, keep watch with Me, but one hour?

And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. And He went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. And He said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto Thee; take away this cup from Me: nevertheless not what I will, but what Thou wilt. And He cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. And again He went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. (Mar 14:34-39)
Jesus was approaching His final hours on this earth before the Cross and His heart was heavy with the burden of sin that would be thrust upon Him for our sake and in our place. All the while He humbled Himself and did His Father's will that the purposes of GOD to redeem all who would repent of their sin and receive Him by faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary would be accomplished. Even with the burden of death and sin that would be placed upon Him, who knew no sin but became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of GOD in Him, He always did the will of the Father and all that His Father gave Him to do.

His disciples, being up late and into the early morning hours of that fateful day, were weary and fell asleep. Not realizing the full impact of what was to come, despite His teachings about being turned over to the authorities and offered for sin and a ransom for many, they did not watch and pray as He desired. How often we let the cares of this world and our physical limits interfere with what GOD would have us to do. He tells we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, and that is not talking about doing our will, or fulfilling our desires and lusts, or meeting our agenda or for our glory, but accomplishing His Will and all that He calls us to do in service, in discipleship, and in evangelism, that He might be glorified in us. He is our life, our strength, and our protection, against the attacks of this world, the weakness of the flesh, and the temptations and sin which would steal our joy, kill our relationships, and destroy our testimony and ministry, as we work for Him and do all that He calls us to do.

Our Lord has sent us as His servants and ambassadors of His Kingdom into this world, not to be conformed by it and its ways, but with the mind and heart of Christ, to minister to those around us who are hurting and in need, with the Word of righteousness and reconciliation, rightly divided and fitly spoken, as GOD provides, that others might see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. GOD has commanded us to love one another in fellowship, as members one of another, and to disciple one another in His Word until we all grow up into the full measure of Him who loved us and gave Himself for us. We have been commissioned into the army of the Lord to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit that is within us, and as we go to this lost and dying world, proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of GOD might have life in His Name.

For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to trust Him and what He has already done for you to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD, forgiveness from GOD, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.

The LORD turned the captivity of Job

And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of Me the thing that is right, as My servant Job hath. Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of Me the thing which is right, like My servant Job. (Job 42:7-8)
As we wrap up our journey through this both difficult and interesting book of Job, possibly one of the oldest books of the Bible, we see the Word of the Lord unto Job and his friends. GOD was not pleased with Job's friends, for their mistaken characterization of Him, of their attacks on Job and his righteousness, and for their lack of comfort in his time of need. None of them were aware of the spiritual battle and trial that Job was undergoing, nor did they understand GOD and His righteousness and mercy.

That mercy was displayed when GOD told them to repent and offer sacrifices for their sin through Job. Job prayed for his friends and forgave them and they were spared the judgment they deserved. GOD was under no obligation to offer mercy, but because of His love, He forgave them their sin. He also blessed Job with more than he had before the trial began. His property and health was restored and he had additional sons and daughters and lived a long time. He also got his request granted and his words were written in a book, the book of Job.

In this broken and dying world there are certain truths we can count on: one, GOD is and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Two, trials and tribulations come to all, either directed or allowed by our Sovereign King or as a result of living in this post-flood world. In all of these we can trust GOD, whether we are being tested, chastised, or just being rained on. On this side of the grass, we may never know, but we can go to our Father and seek His face and rest in Him who is our rest, our peace, our life, and our eternal security. He offers His great Salvation to all who will acknowledge and repent of their sin against Him and receive Him by faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary.

GOD, who is full of mercy and grace, is also a GOD of judgment and justice. His love is perfect, tempered and balanced by His authority over His creation. He calls His people to minister to those around us who are hurting and in need that they might see Christ in us, the hope of Glory and know of Him through His Word and through His servants. GOD commands His Church to love one another as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in His Word that we might grow thereby. The Lord has commissioned each of us who are His to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to this lost and sinful world, and as we go in the power of the Holy Spirit, to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of GOD, might have life in His Name.

Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth

4/7/2016

O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good. The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not. As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more. Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. (Job 7:7-11)
Still complaining about his misery and his friends words which were not comforting but accusatory, Job laments that death is preferred because then his misery would be over. Even though his life is relatively short, his misery is almost overwhelming and he would prefer that GOD would go ahead and take him out of this sinful and broken world. He knew that he could not, for God is life and the giver of life, but he had resigned himself to leaving this earth and being no more a part of its misery and calamity.

Sometimes we can get focused on the temporary things of this life, and our hurts and pains, even illness, that we forget what is more important, the eternal matters. GOD cares for us, and wants us to bring our petitions to Him, but cares infinitely more about the lost people we know, and our ministry to those that are lost and dying, as members of His Church and for His glory, than our current struggles in this life we live in Him. The things of this world will pass away, and we do all fade as a leaf, and so we ought to focus on the eternal first and foremost, and give all our cares and struggles to Him who already knows what we have need of.

GOD calls His people to ministry, to serve Him and those around us who are hurting and in need, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. GOD commands His children to love one another and disciple one another in His Word that we may grow thereby. GOD has commissioned His servants to go with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and as we go in the power of the Spirit who guides and empowers us, we proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary that those who repent and believe that He is the Christ might have life in His Name.

For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is Salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other Scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (2Pe 3:14-18)
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, and waiting for His return, that Blessed Hope, doesn't mean sitting on the pew and wishing He would come back. It means being about our Father's business, of ministry, missions, and discipleship as we evangelize the lost and edify and mature those who are secure in Christ. It means worshiping Him who is worthy in Spirit and in Truth rather than in acts of the flesh, rejoicing in the fellowship we have in and of one another, reaching out to others who are hurting and in need, pointing people to Christ and testifying of our risen living Lord, and encouraging one another in the knowledge of Him who is our Saviour because of His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, our Redeemer because of our repentance of sin and our faith in Him, and our soon coming King, for He is the righteous Judge, the Creator and Lord of the Universe, the Holy One of Israel, and the Head of the Church.

As we wrap up this series, having covered the general epistles, and most of the New Testament, other than Mark and Luke's Gospels, our final view of Peter's final message gives us encouragement and exhortation to look to eternal things, not temporary things. To be steadfast in our study of the Word of GOD that we may grow and mature in Christ, to be constant in our prayers to hear from GOD, and to consistent in our love and care for one another as we continue this journey, as strangers and pilgrims, foreigners in this world, but fellow saints with all who are in Christ, and all who have gone on before us to be with Jesus. With our feet firmly planted on the foundation of Christ and His Word, and having the mind of Christ, we bear one another's burdens and provoke one another to good works, while reaching out to others that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory, until He is done with us.

GOD has called, commanded, and commissioned His people to be His ministers, His servants, His ambassadors, and His witnesses. We are to go out into this lost and dying world with the Word of righteousness and reconciliation, equipped and empowered to speak the Truth in love, and with the Word fitly spoken, proclaim His love, mercy, and grace to all those GOD sends our way and in our path. We are to love one another as He loved us, with charity and as members one of another, not just in the four walls of our meetinghouse, but wherever GOD'S people are doing the will of GOD and the work of the Kingdom. We are to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ as we go and proclaim in the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit the Good News of reconciliation with the Father through repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ alone, that those who hear might believe and in believing that He is the Christ they might have life in His Name.

Be patient therefore unto the coming of the Lord

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (Jas 5:13-16)
For those who are in Christ, we have an advocate with the Father we can pray to, worship, praise, and trust with the cares of this life because He cares for us. We can pray for one another in the power and authority we have in Christ, not because we are any thing other than His people, but because He has told us to boldly approach the Throne of grace to find help in time of need and to bring our petitions to Him who ever liveth to make intercession for His saints. Our songs, our anointing, and our prayers are to be prayers of faith, trusting the Lord Jesus, who cannot fail, to receive our worship, because He alone is worthy, and answer our prayers and to give us what we ask for when we ask according to His will that He might be glorified in all things.

Just as we give our children what they ask for when they ask for something that we already want to give them, so it is with our perfect Heavenly Father. He loves us, and commended that love in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, He not only wants what is best for us, but He wants to bless us and provide for us according to His riches in Christ Jesus. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him who does not change, and He already wants to give us what is best for us and what we need as we sojourn in this sinful and broken world, and do His will and accomplish His work while we are here until He is done with us and takes us Home to be with Him.

Until that day, we are to encourage one another, pray for one another, and forgive one another, that we may show ourselves faithful and that we are His disciples and members of His family and of His body, the Church, and members in particular. We are to pray for our ministries and those who serve as we minister to those around us who are hurting and in need. We are to pray for one another in love and for our growth as we encourage and exhort one another, and disciple one another in His Word to the edification of His people. We are to pray for our witness, as we take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to this lost and dying world, and as we go in the power of the Holy Spirit, praying for those who hear the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, that they might believe and receive eternal life in His Name.

The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the Truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. (Jas 3:13-17)
Those of us who are in Christ, with His Spirit and His Word, are not to follow the wisdom of this world, since it opposes the Truth GOD has given us in His Word. We are to seek Him, not only boldly approaching the Throne of Grace, but also letting Him speak to us. He will guide us into all Truth, and the Spirit of Wisdom will speak and tell us what we need to know and what we are to do, if we ask believing that we shall receive.

Nothing that the Spirit tells us in our prayers will contradict what He has already revealed in the Holy Scriptures, which is why it so important to hear, read, study, memorize, meditate, and memorize them so GOD can apply them to our hearts and minds as we live in Him the new life we have in Christ, in His righteousness. We are to have the mind of Christ, who knew the Word, and wield its sword with practice and confidence, which only comes from practice and study. We are to think GOD'S thoughts after Him, which only comes when we know Him, the Prince of Peace, the Word made Flesh, The Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, from the pages of His written revelation to us, His Holy Word.

The Authoritative, inspired, inerrant, infallible, perfect, pure, and true Word of GOD is our wisdom, our sword in the battle, our guidebook for life, and our basic instructions before leaving earth. The Church of GOD is to stand strong in its principles as we minister to those around us who are hurting and in need, applying His wisdom and Truth. The people of GOD are to speak its truths in love as we disciple one another in His Word, and edify, equip, and encourage one another as we grow in Him, conformed, not to this world and its false wisdom, but into the image of His dear Son. GOD'S army of witnesses are to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit to this lost and dying world, and as we go with the Good News of forgiveness of sin through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, telling all we meet of His love, mercy, and grace, that they might believe in Him and in believing have life in His Name.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of GOD

For the Word of GOD is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, that is passed into the Heavens, Jesus the Son of GOD, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the Throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Heb 4:12-16)
The Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, who now sits on the Throne of grace, to ever intercede for His saints, gave us His written Word, the direct revelation of Himself, who is the Word made flesh, that we might know Him. It does not reveal everything GOD has done, or all that has ever occurred, but that which GOD revealed about Himself, as Creator, Redeemer, Judge, and King, that we might believe in Him and have a covenant relationship with GOD through repentance of our sIn, and faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary.

That same Word also shows us ourselves, our sinful condition as descendants of Adam, and sinners in this broken and dying world. It reveals the History of the Universe and the damage we have done to it and ourselves because of our sIn and depravity. It reveals the source of suffering is not GOD who made all things perfect, but man, who in Adam rebelled against GOD and brought death upon all mankind, and continues to sIn and rebel in thought, word, and deed.

Those who are are still lost, dead in their trespasses and sins, whose thoughts and intents are only wickedness continuously, are under judgment and condemnation. But God has revealed His perfect plan of redemption and Salvation. All who repent and believe in Him are given a new life, the old things are passed away, and a new relationship with their Creator, that we might live in Him and He in us, the hope of Glory. We come to Him for help, for He is our strength, our shepherd, our peace, and our life, and through His grace and mercy we have access to the Father.

Our calling and purpose, as children of the King, is to do His will and accomplish His work in this lost and dying world, not of it nor conformed to its mold, but renewed in our minds, servants of the most High GOD and ambassadors of His Kingdom, to serve our Master and minister to those around us who are hurting and in need. Our command and practice is to love one another as He loves us and disciple one another in His Word until we all grow up into the full measure of Him who is our Head. Our commission and place in His plan is for us to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and as we go tell all we meet of the Good News of reconciliation with the Father, that those who hear and believe might repent and receive by faith through grace life in His Name.

GOD our Saviour will have all men to be saved

11/2/2015

For there is one GOD, and one mediator between GOD and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
(1Ti 2:5-6, 8, 3:16)
Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, became a man, humbly and willingly taking our place on the cross to pay our sin debt and provide the only way to the Father. The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. The one who spoke the world and all that is in it into being with His Word, put on flesh, and then put to death that flesh in the final sacrifice for sin, that those who repent and trust in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary could have His great Salvation by faith through His grace.

Now our resurrected and glorified Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, sits at the right hand of the Father, ever living to intercede for His own, until He returns to judge this world and those who oppose Him and establish His thousand year reign on this earth. We are to pray, to lift up the burdens of this world, as royal priests, bringing the cares and needs of all people to the Throne of grace to find help in time of need. We are to pray, one for another, as members of His body. We are to pray, for orders from the Spirit of GOD, for Truth from His Word, and for peace in the midst of the storms of life. We are to pray, in adoration, worship, thanksgiving, confession, and supplication, for He is Lord, He cares for us, will provide and answer, and He alone is worthy.

Until He returns for His own, to take us Home to be with Him, we are to serve Him, His ambassadors and ministers of reconciliation, to represent the Kingdom and introduce those who don't know Him to Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit that they may be restored and reconciled to the Father. We are to pray for others as we minister to those around us who are hurting and in need, that they may see Jesus in us, the hope of Glory. We are to pray for one another as we disciple one another in love and in the Word of GOD until we all grow up into Him, conformed to the image of His dear Son. We are to pray for this lost and dying world, that we can share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to this lost and dying world, that those who repent of their sins and receive the Good News by faith might have life in His Name.

For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the the Truth. Pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting

10/30/2015

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of GOD our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one GOD, and one mediator between GOD and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. (1Ti 2:1-6)
We are called to intercede, as the royal priesthood we are, for all men regardless of their role in our lives, that they may be saved and sanctified in Christ. Because of His sacrifice and offering for sin, the Lord Jesus mediates between the Father and those who approach Him in repentance and through faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary. Though the preaching of the Cross is foolishness to them that perish, we are to keep at it, speaking the Truth in love, and praying for the Salvation of all we encounter.

As priests of GOD and His saints, we are to take the prayers of the lost to His Throne, to find grace to help in time of need. We may boldly face Him who is our Saviour, because of the blood He shed which is poured out for us, and we have received by faith, making us a new creature in Christ, and part of the household of faith. We are to know Him, and have His mind, through the Spirit of GOD, and the Word of GOD, that we might understand what His will is, lifting Him up before men that He might draw all men unto Himself.

As we intercede, we are to follow our Lord and Saviours call to missions and ministry, ministering to those around us who are hurting and in need, as GOD provides. We are to pray for one another and love one another as He has commanded and as members one of another while we grow up in the Word and in Him. We are to take the Gospel to this lost and dying world, commissioned as His witnesses, and as we go, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ, praying for those we meet that they would repent and receive Him by faith and have eternal life in His Name.

For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the the Truth. The Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another

For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know. For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain. But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you: Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord. For what thanks can we render to GOD again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our GOD; (1Th 3:4-9)

Paul gets personal here with his friends in the church at Thessalonica, relating his experiences and being concerned for their walk in the faith. He rejoices that Timothy brought Him good news of their strength and labour in the Lord and their prayers for him as he continued to minister and be on mission for GOD with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We ought to, despite whatever distress comes our way, pray for one another, and support one another in the faith, that we may be strong in the face of diversity and persecution. We must support those, and walk along side them in the battle, who are fighting the good fight. We are to encourage those who are weary, who are resting or recuperating, not that they will stay in the rec center, but to get back to the fight. Finally, we cannot 'shoot the wounded' when the battle-fatigued and shell shocked come to us for help, strength, and comfort.

We are to bear one another's burdens, weeping with those who weep and rejoicing with those that rejoice. We lift up one another in prayer, whether we know the battle others are facing or not, for we are  members one of another. We equip and encourage each other as we engage and enable people to enjoy Jesus Christ, who is our Head.

He calls us to a mission of service, not to gain or keep that which He has already paid for by His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, but out of genuine love and charity for Him and others. We serve Him as we minister to those around us who are hurting and in need, that they may see Jesus in us, the hope of Glory. We serve Him as we love one another as He loved us,  and disciple one another in His Word. We serve Him as we take His Good News to this lost and dying world that those who hear of repentance and reconciliation with the Father may believe in Him and have life in His Name.

For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the the Truth.

In Christ,
Jefferson Sweet
