Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the Word, they also may without the Word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of GOD of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in GOD, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: (1 Peter 3:1-5)
GOD's plan is clear, wives are to be under the husband's authority. (But, also under GOD's authority, so where there is a seeming conflict, make sure from the Scriptures and obey GOD.) He is the head of the family. They are equal; but just as Jesus who is the Son of GOD who is GOD was under the authority of the Father while being equal to the Father and willingly humbling Himself in obedience to GOD's perfect plan of redemption; so must wives humbly and willingly submit to the rightful authority of the husband. (guys, that doesn't mean we can force it, or demand it.) All of us have to let Scripture speak, and the Spirit of GOD work in our heart as we surrender to Him on His terms in any area of our lives He is working on. This proper and godly behaviour will cause some to come to want to know Christ. Then the opportunity to share the Gospel from the Scriptures will be available. (And guys, that goes for our behaviour as well.)
For the person who does not know Christ, who has never had that life changing moment when they were born again by the Spirit of GOD, and made a new creature in Christ; it is not in your nature to obey, nor understand the things of GOD for they are spiritually discerned. For you GOD commands you to repent and be saved.
No matter what your initial response to this passage, I urge you to take your feelings and conflicts to the Master. Jesus will answer, and then our response is to obey.
In Christ,
