Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, He that offereth the sacrifice of his peace offerings unto the LORD shall bring his oblation unto the LORD of the sacrifice of his peace offerings. His own hands shall bring the offerings of the LORD made by fire, the fat with the breast, it shall he bring, that the breast may be waved for a wave offering before the LORD. And the priest shall burn the fat upon the altar: but the breast shall be Aaron's and his sons'. And the right shoulder shall ye give unto the priest for an heave offering of the sacrifices of your peace offerings. He among the sons of Aaron, that offereth the blood of the peace offerings, and the fat, shall have the right shoulder for his part. (Lev. 7:29-33)
God wanted the Israelites to remember each time they brought their sacrifices unto Him that it was not about ritual but about holiness and that sin cost them. The price for sin was death and God demanded payment for their guilt before Him. Not only was this a reminder to them of the cost of sin but also looking ahead to the final payment for sin in the Messiah, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself willingly and offered Himself for sin on the Cross of Calvary.
The priests and Levites were to be taken care of as they worked for God. They were worthy of their hire and while they were not to take that was not given to them nor pollute the offering in the process, they were assigned a portion as God’s ministers in the temple. They were not going to have an overabundance of sustenance but neither would they starve, if the people brought as they were commanded.
God’s instructions for the offerings point to Christ as the final sacrifice for our sin. God wanted the Israelites to bring the offerings in repentance of their sin and in faith in Him and calls to all today to likewise surrender to Him on His terms of repentance and faith. All should confess to Him their sin and their need of Him for salvation, turn from their sin unto God, and put their trust in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary.
The people of God should provide for the ministers who feed the flock and train up disciple makers in the ways of God. God’s servants are worthy of their hire. God’s ministers should not be kept poor or impoverished just because it isn’t a career but a calling, but neither should they get rich on that which is given to God and the church. The leadership must strike a proper balance and provide for the needs of their pastors carefully just as God directed only a portion unto the priests and not all the offering.
God has sent us out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our GOD has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of GOD so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of GOD might have life in His Name.
GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD, forgiveness from GOD, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
In Christ,
