This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the Law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him. And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king. And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king. For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him. For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments. (Ezra 7:6-10)
Ezra sought the Lord, followed the Law with his whole heart, and God blessed Him and Israel for their faithfulness and obedience. Those who returned had their priorities in order, they came to do the work of the Lord, as the Law proscribed, and sought to teach it to others, that they might know. The statutes and judgments of the Lord are right and true, and Ezra knew them. He desired to obey the Word, not to earn any favour with God, but because His God is True and the Word is life. He also sought to teach others that they too might have a proper understanding of God’s Word as Holy, righteous, and authoritative and obey its principles.
Today, the church is commissioned to take the whole Word to the whole world. We are to seek the Lord and His Kingdom first, obey the principles and commands which He has given us, and teach others the whole Word of God that they might live. We are to remain faithful, as Ezra was, to His precepts and judgments, speaking truth in love, and living the Gospel we preach until He is done with us. Our success is not measured in numbers but in faithfulness to the Lord and the works of righteousness which God has called those who are His to do in and through Him as long as we are here in this world.
Until God takes us Home, God’s people are called to minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as GOD provides, with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that others may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our GOD has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of GOD so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of GOD might have life in His Name.
GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD, forgiveness from GOD, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
In Christ,
