But we know that the Law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the Law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound Doctrine; According to the glorious Gospel of the blessed GOD, which was committed to my trust. We continue our journey through Paul's letters with our next series, his pastoral letters, written to Timothy and Titus, and closing with a personal letter of recommendation, the letter of Philemon. Here Paul begins his first letter to Timothy, his son in the faith, and a pastor trained by Paul. Though young, Timothy was equipped and Paul was encouraging him in his ministry.
Paul begins by affirming that the Law, is good and has a purpose, not for those who are obeying, but for those who disobey. GOD is Holy and as our Creator, He has the right to demand holiness from those who are made in His image. Since we can never measure up or live according to that standard, because of sin, ours and Adams, Jesus Christ, the second Adam, came as a man and went humbly and willingly to die in our place and for our sin debt. That is the glorious Gospel and sound Doctrine of substitutionary atonement that we are to proclaim to this world that they might receive His great Salvation by repentance and faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary. GOD's grace is our only hope. No matter how wretched we were before, in Christ we are new, but we are to live in Him as new creatures, not continuing in the contrary to GOD behaviour from before which was unholy, unrighteous, and rightfully condemned by GOD.
Our mission and ministry, in Christ and for Him, in this sinful and broken world is the same as it was for Timothy, whatever your office in the body of Christ. We are to minister to those around us, and His ambassadors, meeting the needs of those who are hurting and in need as GOD provides blessings to us. We are to love one another as members of His body, in fellowship with Him and with His family, as we disciple one another in the Word of GOD until we all grow up into the full measure of Him, conformed to the image of His dear Son. We are to take the Good News of reconciliation and forgiveness with us, and as we go, tell everyone of His grace, mercy, and peace which comes from faith in the Gospel, that they might believe and have life in His Name.
For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to trust Him and what He has already done for you to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD, forgiveness from GOD, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
