Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the Law, and the service of God, and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, GOD blessed for ever. Amen. Not as though the Word of GOD hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of GOD: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. (Rom 9:4-8)
Paul's burden for his countrymen leads to a discussion here of who is Israel, and who are the saved, children of GOD after the Spirit. Already, there were those in his day, that felt that just being born a Jew, made them already saved and bound for heaven. Paul is correcting that belief, in that despite their nationality, all those who do not believe, are apart from Christ, and they have no assurance of eternal life. Even the Jews are not born into a right relationship with GOD, for all have sinned and come short of the Glory of GOD.
Only those who repent and trust in Christ, placing their faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, are redeemed from the curse of the Law and from their sIn. Now that redemption is not a license to sIn, because we are already forgiven, but liberty to live as we were meant to, in Christ. Neither does our position as Spiritual Israel, grafted into the olive tree, replace those of the nation in GOD's attention, for GOD will once again, when the Church is taken out of the way, return His focus back on Israel as a nation, and as the center of the world. The Church does not replace Israel nationally, nor of the promises directed toward them.
Until that day comes, while we wait upon the Lord, we are to serve Him, being His children, and ambassadors to this lost and dying world. We are to minister to the hurting and in need, as GOD gives the increase. We are to grow in grace and in His Word as we love and disciple one another in His Church. We are to share His love and mercy to those without with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and as we go, we are to proclaim the Good News to all who will hear that they may believe and in believing have life in His Name.
For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to trust Him and what He has already done for you to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD with forgiveness and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
