And GOD said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between Me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between GOD and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And GOD said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between Me and all flesh that is upon the earth. (Gen 9:12-17)
The rainbow reminds us of the worldwide flood, and that GOD will never flood the whole earth again. While local floods do occur, in this sinful and broken world, there will never be another flood that covers the whole earth and destroys all mankind. GOD will bring the next judgment by fire.
GOD who cannot lie, keeps His covenants, despite our failure to uphold our part in the covenant. Noah didn't get very far past the next harvest before he was drunk, exposed, and cursing his grandson. Not a good start for humanity in this new world they now live in. But, GOD is faithful, and despite our failures, He loves us and has provided Himself as our sIn offering, to pay for our sIn and to cleanse those who have placed our faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary from all unrighteousness. It is not because we are worthy, for we are not, but because He is, and all glory and honor belongs to Him for His provision for our Salvation.
GOD's people must be about His business, and tell the whole world of His grace and mercy. Every time we see a rainbow we have the opportunity to remind those around us of the longsuffering of GOD before the flood, and now in the years since, and until His coming again. GOD declares that it is because of His mercy that we are not consumed, and we need to proclaim the Good News to all those around us that while His mercy is available to those who will receive it, it will not be extended to those that reject it in this life and are not covered by His blood by faith in what He has done on that cruel Roman cross in our place. Those that face GOD at the Judgment without Him will not be extended mercy despite their cries. They must believe now before the Judgement comes for we are already guilty and need His Salvation.
And GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and receive by faith, Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. Believe His Word and trust Him for forgiveness and Salvation.
