And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan shewed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past. And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him. And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand. And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night. Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain. So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped. (1 Sam. 19:7-12)
Saul continued to express his rage against David as a threat to his kingdom, though God had already pronounced that it was no longer his and he would be removed. Saul knew that no matter what he attempted, that his lineage and legacy was done, but he still carried on in trying to remove a faithful servant who never threatened Saul at any time. David always sought the will of God and the victory of Israel, never his own glory, for David always served the king and nation and his Lord. Saul, though often influenced by an evil spirit sent to trouble him, acted of his own choices in attempting to extinguish the perceived threat to a throne which was no longer his.
Christians should understand that those who are lost, even if they are in positions of leadership, will often strike at us, because they cannot get to God. Any perceived argument against God is acted out against His servants, even when we do that which is good by the worlds standards, and especially when we do that which God has commanded. Those who are at war with God and remain in rebellion against Him, being born that way and never born again through repentance of their sin and by faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, will respond and persecute His servants as the visible representatives of His Kingdom. As His ambassadors and children of the King, we are to reach the lost with the Good News of forgiveness and reconciliation, teach the nations all He has commanded, and preach His Word at every opportunity until He is done with us.
Until the Day when He comes for His own, God has sent those of us who are His saints and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our God has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of God so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of God might have life in His Name.
God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. God calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with God, forgiveness from God, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is God the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
In Christ,
