And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people: But for his kin, that is near unto him, that is, for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother, And for his sister a virgin, that is nigh unto him, which hath had no husband; for her may he be defiled. But he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.
Thou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the LORD, which sanctify you, am holy.
Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD. (Lev. 21:1-4, 8, 12)
The priests of Israel were to be holy and undefiled during their lifetime and while they served the Lord God and the people. They were to be sanctified and separate from that which made them impure; death, disease, the profane and unholy, and blemishes and infirmities, for they were to be a pure and spotless representatives of the people unto God as they served them and the Lord God of Israel.
As an example and type of Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest of God, the High Priest of the people of Israel was to be pure and holy. He was to be in all respects sanctified and separate from the people, not that he was better than they, but because of his position and calling as the representatives of the people and the intermediary unto God. The priests also, were to be undefiled as they offered sacrifices unto God. Since the people of Israel could not approach God the priests were their means to offer the sacrifices for sin and for thanksgiving and praise. Because of there office and responsibility, God demanded that they be separate and undefiled by death or disease, that they be undefiled by secular pursuits and personal lusts, and all were pure before God and the people.
God is holy and expects His people and servants to be holy before Him and live holy lives. Those who are not in Christ do not do so, nor can they, for they have not the Spirit of God to guide and instruct His people in the ways of God. Those who are lost are in need of the reconciliation and forgiveness that faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary brings to those who surrender to Him on His terms. Jesus Christ who is perfect in every way is our Great High Priest, Holy and without sin, and He took on our sin in our place that we might be reconciled unto God. God wants His servants to be separate and sanctified, as children and priests of God, representing Him to those who do not know Him. The unsaved who may know about God but not have a saving relationship with Him need to be born again and God wants His holy and set apart people to share Jesus, the undefiled and unblemished Lamb of God, with the world.
God has sent those of us that know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He has called His people to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our GOD has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of GOD so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of GOD might have life in His Name.
GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD, forgiveness from GOD, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
