And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. (Gen 2:10-14)
As we continue through Adam's account of day six, we see his record of the pre-flood geography of Eden. The very first thing we notice is that this four-headed river, with some familiar names, is nothing like what we have anywhere here today. We must understand that post flood descendants of Adam, having these names in their history, simply named the new rivers and places with the old names. We must remember as we read these pre-flood accounts is that the flood changed everything. GOD says that that world perished, and while we understand the earth is still here, all that was known of that world is gone except in the memories and written accounts of its people.
We study this passage and wonder at its geography and perfect creation, and then properly understand the judgment of GOD on our sIn that not only separated us from GOD, but also cursed all of creation, and further sIn led to the judgment of the flood of Noah's day. GOD is Holy, He is serious about sIn, and He has already judged us guilty of our rebellion against Him. In Adam we all sinned and come short of GOD's glory. In Christ, the second Adam, we are made alive again, and through our faith and His shed blood on the Cross of Calvary we can once again be in relationship and fellowship with our Creator, Provider, and King. That is the true living water which GOD gives and we are to share with others.
While we are here on this earth, we are commanded to tell all whom we meet of His grace, and of His judgment. We are to share the Good News of Jesus Christ so that those who are still under condemnation can believe and be forgiven and reconciled to our Holy GOD and Redeemer. We are to take His message of Hope and Salvation wherever we go, and as we go proclaim the Gospel to all who hear that they might believe and believing have life in His Name.
For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with Him that is real and personal. Believe His Word and receive Him by faith in His finished and perfect work on that cruel Roman cross and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. Let the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, Jesus Christ, who created all things give you the water of life freely and forever.
