And say, Hear ye the Word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of Hosts, the GOD of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle. Because they have forsaken Me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents; They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into My mind: (Jeremiah 19:3-5)
GOD is serious about sIn. He condemned Israel and brought about its destruction and the captivity of its people because of their sIn. Here, He declares it to Judah and Jerusalem; Judgment is coming because of sIn. The wages of sIn is death: physical, spiritual, relational, emotional; it can and does include congregations and nations. GOD proclaimed us all under the curse of sIn and death when we rebelled in Adam. He called Israel out of all the nations to be His ambassadors and priests to the world, and the rejected Him and His Word and destruction came. But GOD has not forgotten or forsaken Israel. Even though this destruction of Judah and Jerusalem did come, and was repeated later on, GOD still has a place and a plan for Israel and Jerusalem.
This destruction came to pass just as GOD said it would, but there is a future Kingdom that GOD will establish that shall never end. But, in the meantime GOD is setting up a kingdom in us when, those of us who believe received Him by faith and surrender to Him on His terms. We of the Church are now a royal priesthood and a peculiar people, whose task and commission it is to tell the nations all that Jesus has commanded us. We are to take the whole Word to this lost and dying world, that they might have peace and forgiveness just as we have received.
For those that don't yet have Jesus as their Saviour, have never been born again by trusting in His finished work on the Cross of Calvary and repented of their sIn, Judgment and condemnation is still on you. But, GOD is not willing that any should perish. He wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. He calls you to believe and receive Jesus Christ by Faith in His Word. He wants you to have a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him and in Him that is abundant and everlasting.
Trust and obey the written and living Word of GOD today.
