And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; For the LORD your God is He that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. (Deut. 20:3-4)
Through Moses, God was lifting up the hearts of the people that they faint not, again, against the strong and fierce countenance of their opponents in the coming campaign. God had judged the people of Canaan and given the land unto Israel. The Israelites were to be faithful in taking their rightful possession of the land and obeying God in the process. They were not to keep that which was not theirs to keep but utterly destroy it as it had been judged by the Lord. They were not to be fainthearted for God had given them the land and the victory because of Abraham and his faith in God. God would save His people physically and spiritually if they would trust in Him.
For the Christian, one who has an inheritance in Christ and is saved by faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, God is our salvation from the penalty of sin. He is our victory because of His victory over sin and death and our strength because of His power to overcome the temptation to sin and the wiles of the devil which comes against us. He is our inheritance because of His presence within and His promise to always be with us and never forsake us. For those who are truly born again by the Spirit of God, we can stand strong against our enemies, not of flesh and blood, but the principalities and powers who seek to defeat us and discredit our witness for Jesus Christ. Those that don’t know Christ are not our enemies, for they are as we once were, judged guilty and under condemnation for sin and in need of forgiveness and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is God the Son, who put to death the flesh that all might be saved.
God has sent those who are His and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our God has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of God so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of God might have life in His Name.
God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. God calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with God, forgiveness from God, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is God the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
In Christ,
