Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD GOD had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath GOD said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, GOD hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For GOD doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (Gen 3:1-5)
Whether a talking snake was normal or not, Eve was not surprised or frightened by its appearance or what he said. The enemy comes in the only way he can, to deceive and cast doubt, with lies and half-truths wrapped up in subtle language, and attacks the Word of GOD. He appealed to Eve's pride as well as taking advantage of her misunderstanding. He falsely suggested that GOD was keeping something from them, when the reality is that GOD was protecting us from ourselves.
GOD knows us, since He created us, and knows that we cannot handle the knowledge or responsibility of being as 'gods'. Only GOD can be GOD. But the suggestion caused doubt and confusion, and lust for something they didn't have began. It sprouted up in their minds and hearts and sIn entered the world. The only thing that GOD didn't create had now entered GOD's perfect paradise, and the results have been horrific. But GOD has the only plan and provision for grace.
Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, came willingly and humbly to this earth, spent three years teaching and preaching until He went obediently to the Cross of Calvary in our place and for our sIn, that we might have life and be forgiven and reconciled to a Holy GOD. That is the message of hope that we are commanded to take to this lost and dying world. As we go, we are to live the Gospel and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and Salvation in His Name.
For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and receive Him by faith in what He has already done on that cruel Roman cross and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. Turn from your sIn, and turn to GOD in repentance and faith in His Word, trusting Him for Salvation and forgiveness.
