Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth? The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth. Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength. He stretched out His hand over the sea, He shook the kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof. (Isaiah 23:8-11)
It should be taken as a warning. Regardless of our foundation, when we forget GOD, and act as though we don't need Him, He will eventually remove us from this world. Whether it is a nation, a people, or a church we cannot continue to shake our fist at GOD and tell Him we don't need Him without suffering dire circumstances, in this life and the next.
For the saved believer, who is secure in Christ, this warning should cause us to repent and cling more closely to our GOD for it is He that saves us. Trusting in Him while everything around us is failing simply reminds us of our safety in the Strong Tower of Jesus Christ and His Word. Jesus Christ will save to the uttermost, while the arm of flesh will fail us.
For the unbeliever who is still lost, this warning should give you pause. You have a choice; either surrender to GOD on His terms and trust Him no matter what happens around you, or blame GOD and continue in your war with Him that you cannot win. He has already paid the price for your sIn, and is not willing that you should perish, but wants you to repent and come to the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you, and He willingly took your place on the Cross of Calvary. He rose again, conquering death and the grave and wants you to experience the new birth that comes from faith in Him. Receive His gift of grace and live.
Believe Jesus and His Word for you today.
In Christ,
