That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that GOD is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us. (1Jn 1:3-10)
John continues his message in this first of three smaller epistles written to encourage the people of GOD. John walked with the living Lord Jesus when He was here, and wants us to be strengthened in our faith in whom we have believed. The Gospel that John wrote was not a cunningly devised fable, but an account of the miracles, experiences, and life of Jesus Christ that we might know Him and believe in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary for Salvation. These letters affirm Him and our walk with our Lord and our Father.
Fellowship with GOD through repentance and faith is not a license to sIn, nor can we continually sIn and truly be in the Father, for He is without sIn. If we are in Him, and He in us, when we occasionally do sIn, it should be grievous unto us, so that we confess it to Him and forsake the sIn which doth so easily beset us. He will forgive the repentant soul that comes to Him in faith, and because He is the righteous judge, He is right to do so, but we must be willing and by faith bring ourselves to Him and rely solely on Him for the power to overcome and to be Holy for He is Holy. Any thing less that complete surrender to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ means we are still trying to run our own lives, which are not our own, for we are His, bought with His blood.
We are to continue in fellowship with one another because He has made us all one in Him. We do His work in this lost and dying world because we submit to His will and His work in us to make us more like Him. We minister to others because of His blessing upon our lives that others might learn and know of Jesus Christ the only Saviour. We love one another and lay down our lives for the brethren because of His love for us that all may know we are His disciples. We share Him and the Gospel of Jesus Christ that all who hear the Good News may repent and believe, and in believing have life in His Name.
For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to trust Him and what He has already done for you to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD with forgiveness and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
