And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. (Jos 6:2-5)
GOD's reasons and His instructions will seem different or off to us, in fact He says His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts. The marching orders He gave to Joshua were not your typical siege instructions, nor do they make sense to anybody. Joshua and the Children of Israel simply had to obey for GOD to bless them and conquer the city He had already pronounced judgment upon and given into their hands. Encircling the city demonstrated GOD's encompassing power and control which they repeated the seventh day seven times to show completion and when the people gave the shout of victory, GOD moved against the walls of the city and they tumbled down, just as He had promised they would.
If we are in Christ and walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh, we hear and obey the Spirit of GOD and follow His commands, which are not grievous nor burdensome. The Law before we were saved and secure in Christ was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ and shew us our need for Him. By faith in His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, which is a mystery and foolishness to them that perish, we have passed from death unto life, dead to the Law and to sIn because of our repentance, and alive in Christ. The Gospel and way of Salvation may be strange to many, but to those of us who have been saved by His grace, it is the power of GOD, to translate us from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of His dear Son. Thanks be to GOD that gives us the victory, victory over sIn through His power and Word, victory over death by His resurrection and us in Him, and victory over this world for greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
Because of His victory, we have liberty, not license to sIn, but freedom to live and to do His work, not for Salvation, but because of His love for us. We are at liberty to serve one another and to minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as GOD blesses and directs. We free to follow His commands and love one another and to disciple one another in the Word of GOD that we may all grow in Him into the full measure of Him. At rest in Him we are free to share His grace and Gospel with all those we meet, and as we go, proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to all who will hear, that in true repentance of sIn and faith in Christ alone they may have life in His Name.
For GOD is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance and the knowledge of the the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. GOD calls you to trust Him and what He has already done for you to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with GOD, forgiveness from GOD, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD who is GOD the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
