And now, O LORD my God, Thou hast made Thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. And Thy servant is in the midst of Thy people which Thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore Thy servant an understanding heart to judge Thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this Thy so great a people? And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. (1 Kings 3:7-13)
Solomon asked for wisdom and discernment from the LORD above all else and gained that which he had not asked for, in riches, honor, and long life. God was pleased with Solomon’s choice and showing some wisdom already, gave him his request and more. Solomon was right in that wisdom is the principle thing and with wisdom getting understanding was from God. God blessed him because of his heart to judge wisely and rule with discernment over Israel and gave him the riches and honor which many since have desired to receive without the wisdom which God gave Solomon. All good gifts come from God and He gives wisdom abundantly to all who will ask, and other blessings to those who are obedient to His Word.
For those who are resting in Christ by faith in Him and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary, we have the Spirit of God to guide us into all Truth and the complete Word of God to reveal unto us that which God has spoken unto His people. The Spirit gives wisdom, judgment, and discernment to those who will hear His voice and speaks through the living Word of God to teach, correct, reprove, and instruct that all may know of Him and grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. God’s people are commanded and commissioned to go and tell that they might reach the lost with the Good News of forgiveness and reconciliation, teach all nations whatsoever He has commanded, and preach His Word at all times and to all people that they may know Him and receive His free gift of eternal life. The wisdom of God is available to all who will ask for it, and those who seek God will find Him, and all who knock at the throne of Grace will find mercy to help in time of need, if they come willingly, humbly, and with a repentant heart of faith, expecting that which He has promised to give abundantly. May we seek His face as Solomon sought wisdom and live in obedience to our Creator, Redeemer, and King until He is done with us.
While we are here, God has sent those of us who are His saints and know Him out into this world to reach the lost that they might be saved from sin. He desires that His people strive to be holy and obedient unto Him that we might minister to those around us who are hurting and in need as He provides. We serve others, equipped with the Word of reconciliation and righteousness, rightly divided and fitly spoken, that they may see Christ in us, the hope of Glory. Our God has commanded us to love one another with an unfeigned love, even as He first loved us, and to disciple one another in the Word of God so that we may all grow in grace and in the Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Lord has commissioned those who are His with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go where He sends us in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we go, we are to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness through repentance and reconciliation with the Father through faith in His Son, that those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah of God might have life in His Name.
God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance and the knowledge of the Truth. Jesus loves you and wants to establish a covenant relationship with you that is real and personal. Surrender to Him on His terms and He will give you a brand new life of discipleship and fellowship with Him that is abundant and everlasting. God calls you to faith in Christ and His finished and perfect work on the Cross of Calvary to pay your sIn debt. He has provided the only way of reconciliation with God, forgiveness from God, and Salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is God the Son, to give you a new life in Christ. Turn away from yourself and your sIn and turn to Him alone for eternal Life, now and always.
In Christ,
